Legendary golf architect and gentleman of the game, Joe Lee, designed the Country Club Course in 1973—it was one of the first private clubs in the state of Florida. The restoration preserved the original Joe Lee design while modernizing the course and enhancing the playability. Gene Bates of Bates Golf Design Group led the refresh with consultation from Jeff Sluman, a resident of The Seagate Country Club and touring golf pro, who has six PGA Tour victories to his name. The championship 18-hole course is comprised of 300 acres with stocked bass ponds and natural wildlife nearby. The greens were replaced with TIF Eagle grass while the tree-lined fairways and tee boxes were replaced with Celebration Bermuda grass.
There are a total of 91 bunkers with new G-Angle man-made sand and enhanced drainage. Cart paths now have coquina shell and the bulkheads on the water holes were replaced. Improvements were made to select par-3 holes and yardage added to several tees, Additionally, a few women’s tees were shortened and improved.
Fairway grass (Celebration); Greens grass (TifEagle Dwarf).

Number 17 is The Seagate Country Club’s signature hole, which is also considered one of the great short Par-3’s in South Florida. The proximity of the green to the lake offers a unique challenge, as there are a variety of hole locations that offer different shot selections. The three bunkers surrounding the green are deep and threatening hazards to be avoided. For a golf hole ranging from 100-137 yards, this is a very intimidating yet scenic hole.
Golf instruction at The Seagate Country Club began in 1973 when the club opened the first-ever Golf Digest School staffed by Golf Digest professionals. The following services are provided by PGA professionals: Golf lessons (including individual, group and playing lessons), video analysis, clinics, and club repairs. The practice range has been designed to closely emulate actual playing conditions.
Members are expected at all times to dress in a fashion befitting their surroundings. It is also expected that members will advise their family members and guests of any dress requirements in effect. Inappropriate attire on the golf courses and practice facilities includes jeans, tee shirts, tank tops, cargo shorts, spandex/gym wear, tennis bottoms, and flip flops.
Gentlemen: Men’s apparel must be conservative in nature. Collared or mock neck golf shirts are required and must be tucked in. Golf shorts and pants cannot have external pockets. Hats may not be worn backward and must be removed upon entering the clubhouse.
Ladies: Women’s shirts must be conservative in nature and have either sleeves or collars or both. Golf skirts, skorts, and shorts must be Bermuda length and hemmed. They can be no shorter than 6” above the middle of the knee and may not have external pockets. Upon entering the clubhouse, headwear for women is accepted only in the 19th hole grille, although not encouraged.
All players are required to use soft spikes or spikeless shoes. Please be reminded that soft spikes are made of an elastomeric material, which can cause slipping under certain circumstances. Always use caution when wearing soft-spikes when walking on wood, steep slopes, and hard, smooth surfaces such as concrete, rocks, tile, marble, and hardwood floors.
If you need assistance or have questions about the tee time reservation system, please stop by the golf shop and see one of the Professional staff, or call 561-498-8298.
